“Another blow of life. Another wound that is difficult to close because when it comes to friends-brothers, not even time helps,” Alina López Ochoa wrote on her Facebook profile when she lamented this December 13, like many other friends and colleagues of the union, the death of journalist Alberto Gutiérrez Walón, due to a massive heart attack.

“The news – Alina continued – is overwhelming because there are beings to whom one grants the gift of immortality without having the consent of life. I am talking about a professional of greater stature, of an exceptional being, of an extraordinary Cuban.”

For his part, the vice president of the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC), Juan Carlos Ramírez Heras evoked the happiness of Gutiérrez Walón upon receiving, this December 12, the 60th anniversary coin of the UPEC for his outstanding career as a member of the organization.

The newspaper photojournalist Granma, Juvenal Balán added his condolences: “Today is a black day. It has not stopped raining, flooding and strong electric shocks with the sound of a disaster.

“Perhaps it was the moment of the departure of this brother, the güinero, who from his homeland did journalism in all the demonstrations, radio, print, TV, agency and most importantly, he was a brother. For the last time I heard his voice when Fulgueiras and I called him from the UPEC Congress and chatted with him. It’s hard, a friend is leaving…”

For Yudaisis Moreno Benítez, director of the artemiseño, “death always ends even if it gives a life advantage” and this is what happened with Gutiérrez Walón whom he remembers as “the colleague from Diario Mayabeque with whom we fraternized less than a week ago; that of the tight hug, since the radio in Havana and the Cuban News Agency in the two new provinces also united us.”

“It is difficult for me to say that you rest in peace,” journalist Maricel González wrote in a Time.news. “Keep going and wherever you go show that you are eternal, spread joy and revelry without limit.”
