Home sales moderate their fall in October to 11.1%

The sale and purchase of homes registered a decrease of 11.1% in October compared to the same month last year, to a total of 45,903 transactions, its lowest figure in this month since 2019, in a context of higher interest rates. as reported this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

With this year-on-year decline, which moderates by more than twelve points that registered in September (-23.7%), the sale and purchase of homes has had nine months of negative year-on-year rates.

The year-on-year decline in home sales in October has been exclusively due to the fall in second-hand apartment transactions, since the sale of new homes advanced slightly.

Specifically, the sale and purchase of used homes fell by 13.5% in the tenth month of the year, totaling 37,056 operations, while transactions carried out on new apartments increased by 0.8%, to 8,847 operations.

92.8% of the homes transferred by sale in October were free homes and 7.2% were protected. In total, the purchase and sale of free homes fell by 10.4% year-on-year, to 42,578 transactions, while the purchase and sale of subsidized homes fell by 19%, to a total of 3,325 transactions.

In a month-on-month rate (October over September), home sales rose 4.1%, its largest increase in a month of October since 2019.
