Avellaneda said: “People who forget their traditions lose awareness of their destinies. “Those who rest on glorious tombs are the ones who best prepare their future.” Well, our heroes like Belgrano, and especially Alberdi and the men of the ’80s, in their passage through our history, were true exponents of liberal thought. And so they left their mark in defense of a capitalism that marked the beginning of monumental progress for Argentina. And we were one of the richest countries on earth. For more than 20 years we have lived immersed in populist-statism. That system of government plunged us into backwardness and destroyed us as a society because it came loaded with hatred, envy and resentment; full of restrictions, controls and regulations, permanently discouraging private initiative and nullifying the human being’s independence, for the benefit of an omnipotent and gigantic State. A state that, supposedly, could do everything, but in reality it adequately solved nothing: neither security, nor health, nor poverty, nor inflation, much less education. Demagogic and ineffective, it was useless in raising our beloved Nation: a blessed land full of valuable natural resources. All these years a culture of giving was established, opposed to the proper culture of work that should never have been abandoned. An explanation for the failure was sought by rationalizing or inventing blame such as the pandemic, war, drought, etc. Without visualizing that what happened to us was due to our own mistakes or marked ineptitude to govern. In the recent elections, a leader triumphed who only pointed out the truth without false promises and with the frank intention of once again being a Nation where freedom, justice, peace and authentic social progress reign: Will it be feasible? I, personally, think so: an Argentina is possible and that it will be better.
