The emir of Kuwait, Nauaf al Ahmed al Sabá, has died at the age of 86, according to the official Kuwaiti news agency, KUNA.

Al Sabá, it should be remembered, was hospitalized in November due to a problem of health not specified but urgent.

The emir, 86, took office in September 2020 after the death of his half-brother, Sheikh Sabá al Ahmed al Jaber al Sabá, who had led the country since 2006 and who had previously headed the Defense and Interior portfolios.

Since his oath of office, The emir has kept a low profile in Kuwaiti politics, marked by paralysis due to the resignation of several cabinets due to continued friction with Parliament, currently dominated by the opposition.

This confrontation has hampered the efforts of the rico producer of Petroleum of the Persian Gulf to reduce its heavy dependence on crude oil and push through fiscal reforms, including a debt law that allows Kuwait to access international markets, and an additional provision for citizens to buy debt from the government.
