The first satellite of the Arktika-M series, designed for round-the-clock monitoring of the northern territories of Russia and the seas of the Arctic Ocean, was successfully launched into the target orbit on February 28, 2021. The then general director of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, stated that the state corporation, together with Roshydromet, should assess the possibility of this so that the first two Arktika-M devices “do not become loners.” The satellites, according to Rogozin, will make it possible to obtain an overview image of the North polar region of the Earth and adjacent territories at least once every 15-30 minutes.
