Colin Burgess, the original drummer of iconic rock band AC/DC, has passed away at the age of 77, the group announced on Saturday.

“Very sad to hear of the passing of Colin Burgess. He was our first drummer and a very respected musician. Happy memories, rock in peace Colin,” the band said in a tribute on social media.

A cause of death was not immediately provided.

Burgess, a native of Australia, was among the first group of band members along with lead vocalist Dave Evans, Angus Young, Larry Van Kriedt and Malcom Young. He played on the band’s debut single, “Can I Sit Next to You, Girl?” Burgess joined the band in 1973 and left the following year.

Before joining AC/DC, Burgess was a member of an Australian group called The Masters Apprentices. He later formed the hard rock band His Majesty.

As of now, this is a developing story and updates will be provided as they become available.
