Hamas Tried to Kidnap Soldier in Failed Attempt

The IDF has clarified this evening, in response to an appeal by Mako, that Hamas attempted to kidnap a soldier, but their plan was unsuccessful. This clarification comes after documentation from the fighting in the Gaza Strip was distributed by the terrorist organization Hamas.

The footage shows a group of armed terrorists, dressed in civilian clothes, emerging from a tunnel shaft and attacking an IDF position inside the Strip. They engaged in a battle before retreating back into the tunnel. Tragically, during this incident, Major (res.) Tomer Shlomo Miara, a reservist in the 710th Engineering Battalion, was killed.

Despite the IDF’s efforts to dismantle the military capacity of Hamas, there have been an increasing number of serious incidents in areas under the operational control of the IDF in the northern Gaza Strip. Hamas’s use of tunnels allows them to surprise IDF forces, posing a significant challenge.

In previous documentation, terrorists were observed coming out of a shaft near an IDF defense post, but they did not attack. After Hamas published this footage, the IDF uncovered and destroyed the shaft.

The IDF spokesman responded to the latest video published by Hamas, stating that it was not an attempted kidnapping, but rather an encounter with armed terrorists in the north of the Gaza Strip. The kidnapping attempt was thwarted after IDF forces engaged the terrorists, ultimately destroying the shaft from which they emerged. Tragically, Major (res.) Tomer Shlomo Miara lost his life in the battle.
