Italy facilitates entry from the EU area

Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza has signed a new regulation easing the corona restrictions for foreigners entering the country from EU countries from next Tuesday (February 1). Travelers from EU countries will only need a “green passport” to travel to Italy, it said in a statement on Wednesday.

The so-called Green Passport is a document that proves immunity to Covid-19 through vaccination, previous infection or a negative test. On December 14, Italy ordered all EU citizens to present a test before departure. This decision was taken to prevent the proliferation of the Omicron variant.

According to the Ministry of Health, the regulation also extends corridors for travel to a number of non-European countries and extends them to six other destinations. In September 2021, Italy had set up so-called covid-free tourism corridors towards the Maldives, Seychelles, Mauritius, Egypt (but only Sharm El Sheikh and Marsa Alam), Dominican Republic and Aruba.

Italy reported 167,206 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, up from 186,740 the previous day, the health ministry said. The number of deaths fell from 468 to 426.
