Teenage Girl Crashes Car Into Massachusetts State Police Barracks

CHESHIRE, Mass. — A 17-year-old girl is facing multiple charges, including operating under the influence of liquor, after authorities said she crashed her car into the Massachusetts State Police barracks in Cheshire.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening when a 2000 Nissan Altima sedan traveling south on Route 8 went off the road and struck the east front corner of the Cheshire State Police Barracks. The car crashed through the building’s brick exterior wall and damaged a kitchen area inside the barracks. Fortunately, no troopers inside the barracks were injured by the crash.

Both the driver and a passenger, also a 17-year-old girl, were transported to Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield to be evaluated for minor injuries. After being examined at the hospital, the driver was brought back to the Cheshire State Police Barracks and booked on charges of OUI liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and a marked lanes violation.

The driver, who was not named, was released on the standard $40 bail fee and is scheduled to appear in Pittsfield District Court for arraignment on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the State Police Facilities Section and a contractor responded to the barracks in Cheshire and performed emergency repairs. Although additional repairs will be required, officials noted that troopers are able to continue working inside the building.

The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the serious consequences that can result from such actions. Authorities are urging all drivers, especially young and inexperienced ones, to always make responsible choices behind the wheel.
