Who wanted to spy on the head of the Ukrainian army? A listening device was discovered in one of the future offices of the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army Valery Zaluzhny. The announcement was made by the kyiv security services on Sunday, while specifying that the device was “not operational”.

“The equipment was not found directly in Valery Zaluzhny’s office, but in one of the premises that he could use for his work in the future,” Ukrainian services clarified on Telegram.

An open investigation

An investigation was opened for “illegal use of special technical means to obtain information”, they added without providing any clues as to the origin of this listening device. “The device found was not operational. No data storage or remote audio transmission devices were found. This technical device will be sent for examination,” the Ukrainian services further indicated.

As commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, Valery Zaluzhny decides on the overall course of operations on the front, under the authority of President Volodymyr Zelensky. Ukrainian and foreign media have reported growing tensions between the two men in recent months, against a backdrop of the failure of the summer counter-offensive by kyiv’s forces and the crumbling of Western support.
