This missile flew a distance of approximately 1000 km, before falling into the Sea of Japan. But “according to calculations based on its trajectory and depending on the weight of its warhead”, it “could have the capacity to fly more than 15,000 km, and in this case the entire territory of the United States would be within its range ”, according to Parliamentary Deputy Defense Minister Shingo Miyake.

Its flight lasted 1 hour 13 minutes, reaching a maximum altitude of more than 6,000 km. And around 9:37 a.m. Japanese time, the missile fell into the sea outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ), 250km northwest of the small island of Okushiri which neighbors that of Hokkaido ( north of the country), said Mr. Miyake.

This new launch came just hours after another test by Pyongyang, which involved a short-range missile, which also crashed in the Sea of Japan on Sunday evening.

“We strongly condemn” these shots, declared Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, recalling that these tests violated sanctions against Pyongyang taken by the United Nations Security Council.

These shots represent a “threat to peace and stability in the region,” Mr. Kishida further underlined.
