Netflix’s Dystopian Vision Comes to Life in New Film “The Kitchen”

Netflix is starting off the year 2024 with a bold and dystopian vision of the future. The streaming giant has just released a new trailer for “The Kitchen,” a film that imagines a near-future version of London complete with reckless biker gangs and holographic displays, giving it a cyberpunk aesthetic. The film, helmed by Kibwe Tavares and Daniel Kaluuya (who also serves as co-writer and co-producer), is set to start streaming on January 19th, 2024.

According to Netflix’s description, in this version of London, “the gap between rich and poor has been stretched to its limits,” setting the tone for the movie’s titular setting.

“All forms of social housing have been eradicated and only The Kitchen remains. A community that refuses to move out of the place they call home,” the description reads. “This is where we meet a solitary Izi, living here by necessity and desperately trying to find a way out, and a 12-year-old Benji, who has lost his mother and is searching for a family. We follow our unlikely pair as they struggle to forge a relationship in a system that is stacked against them.”

“The Kitchen” stars “Top Boy’s” Kane Robinson, a musician also known as Kano, in the lead role of Izi, alongside newcomer Jedaiah Bannerman as Benji. The rest of the cast includes Hope Ikpoku Jnr, Ian Wright, BackRoad Gee, Cristale, Teija Kabs, and Demmy Ladipo.

With its gritty and compelling premise, “The Kitchen” promises to be a thought-provoking and visually stunning addition to Netflix’s original content lineup. Viewers can expect to be drawn into a world that challenges societal norms and reflects on the ongoing struggles of individuals in an ever-evolving and dystopian society.
