He’s a great economist who left last weekend. Philippe Martin, dean of the Sciences Po school of public affairs, former director of the Economic Analysis Council, died suddenly on Sunday December 17, at the age of 57. The disappearance of this curious spirit did not leave the French intelligentsia indifferent, of which he was one of the representatives. Sciences Po praised “a first-rate economist” and the Elysée praised “one of the most respected figures in his discipline”.
It’s true and almost surprising, as this man, with his sparkling gaze, was at first easy and smiling. Recognized by his peers, he was undeniably so, occupying to date the 20th position among the most cited economic researchers working in France, behind the Nobel Prize winner Jean Tirole or Philippe Aghion, and ahead of many others.
