José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes will be appointed this Tuesday by the Council of Ministers as the new president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD). This was announced this Monday by Cadena SER and sources close to the Ministry of Education and Sports have confirmed it to Europa Press.

The Valencian politician, who was already Minister of Culture and Sports in the first part of the previous legislature of Pedro Sánchez, is the one chosen to fill the gap left by Víctor Francos, who presented his resignation from this office last Thursday “for personal reasons”. position. His inauguration in the new position is scheduled for next Thursday.

His appointment makes him the fifth president of the CSD since 2018 after María José Rienda, Irene Lozano, José Manuel Franco and the aforementioned Víctor Francos. In his case, it reflects a new commitment by the Sánchez Government for a more political than sporting profile, although he knows the Council well from his time as ministerial responsible for the sports area between January 2020 and July 2021.

Rodríguez Uribes, 55 years old, has a Doctor of Law from the Carlos III University of Madrid and also has a Law Degree from the University of Valencia. Until this last appointment, he held the position of Ambassador of Spain to UNESCO – where he was replaced this month by also former minister Miquel Iceta – and among his previous political positions is the Government delegate in Madrid.
