49ers Injury Update: Davis out with Ankle Sprain, Shanahan Leaves Door Open for Suh

by time news

The 49ers are facing even more challenges on the defensive line after their 45-29 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Kalia Davis suffered a high ankle sprain during the game and will be out for multiple weeks, adding to the team’s already depleted defensive line.

With Arik Armstead and Javon Hargrave already out, Davis’s injury further reduces the team’s depth on the defensive line. Clelin Ferrell also suffered an ankle injury but is considered day-to-day. Coach Kyle Shanahan mentioned that the team is considering various options to address the situation, including potentially signing free-agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

On the offensive side, receiver Jauan Jennings has been placed in the concussion protocol after catching two passes for 25 yards in Sunday’s game. The team, however, received relief when Brock Purdy’s stinger injury late in the first half of the game did not appear to have any lingering effects, with Shanahan stating that he is assuming it’s a typical stinger.

Additionally, Deommodore Lenoir is day-to-day with a rib contusion. The extra day off this week, with the 49ers’ next game on Monday night, is expected to help him recover. As for the players who missed the game, Shanahan reported that Ross Dwelley, Elijah Mitchell, and Oren Burks all have a chance to return to practice this week, but did not confirm the specific statuses of any player.

The 49ers will have to navigate through these various injuries and uncertainties as they prepare for their next game.
