The offer of volunteer motorcyclists in the field of fire prevention praised the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikiliasemphasizing that the volunteering is the new patriotism, during a meeting he had today with the Hellenic Motorcycle Federation. At the meeting, among other things, the foundations were laid for a more organized and systematic cooperation in the field of fire safety during the coming fire season throughout the country.
The meeting took place in the office of Mr. Kikilia at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection in Maroussi, in the presence of the MP N.D. Evros Christos Dermentzopoulos.
As stated by the president of the Federation, Ilias Grigorakisthe voluntary assistance of motorcyclists in the field of fire safety is important.
In the 28 Clubs that operate throughout the country, motorcyclists carry out patrols during the fire season in mountainous, hard-to-reach places, preventing any arsonists, spotting initial outbreaks in time and notifying the Fire Department.
It is noted that, especially last summer, motorcyclists developed a special action in the Evros area, informing about flare-ups and other dangerous situations during the catastrophic fire.
The minister emphasized that a key pillar in strategic planning is prevention and described the active and organized participation of volunteers as valuable. As he said, the volunteer motorcyclists help in fire safety, in terms of the early detection of the start of a fire as well as the rekindling of fires, providing essential help to the difficult work of the firefighters.
With a view to the organized and efficient utilization of the volunteer motorcycle firemen in the coming fire season, Mr. Kikilias asked the Federation to proceed with a mapping of the volunteer forces it has throughout the country, so that the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation will follow, which will provide among other things, the training of the volunteers by the Fire Brigade by regional unit (communication protocols, cooperation between firefighters and volunteers, assistance in the first phase of fire fighting, etc.)
The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection thanked the volunteer motorcyclists and noted: “Volunteering is the new patriotism, in order for the country to be able to manage as much as possible the effects of the extreme weather events that it will continue to face more and more often because of the intensifying climate crisis.”
