State deputy Beth Sahão (PT-SP) presented a project to create Democracy Day in the state, in addition to honoring Clarice Herzog, widow of journalist Vladimir Herzog, and posthumously Eunice Paiva, widow of deputy Rubens, with the Necklace of Honor for Legislative Merit Paiva. Both were killed by the military dictatorship.

Under the proposal, Democracy Day would be celebrated annually on October 25, the date of Herzog’s assassination in 1975.

The tributes to Clarice and Eunice, who died in 2018, will take place in April next year, when the 1964 military coup will be 60 years old.

“It is a set of actions that we are developing in the Assembly to consolidate our democratic regime and remember such important people who were killed by the dictatorship because they were fighting for democracy”, says the deputy.
