Donating blood is, fundamentally, a act of solidarity before people. That is why it is important to seek to raise awareness among humanity about the importance of voluntary donation. Blood transfusion is vital to save the lives of people who have suffered accidents or who are undergoing treatments that cause blood deficiency.

Therapy support through transfusions are used In some situations as are the following:

Burns
Accidents
Pregnancy complications Anemias
Premature babies
Radiotherapy Cardiac surgery Organ transplant

Donating blood cannot be replaced by any other therapy

It is true that science advances but, until now, blood has not been able to be replaced by any therapy or be produced synthetically. In the event of any deficiency in any of its components, it will be necessary to have components prepared from the process of donating blood, such as: plasma, red blood cells and platelets.

According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2020, the blood donation rate per 1,000 people was 31 donations in high-income countries, 16 in upper-middle-income countries, 7 in middle-income countries and 5 in low-income countries.

In Mexico, 2 million donations should be reached

Mexico is classified worldwide within the medium-high countries. This means that there should be an amount of just over 2 million donations. However, in 2020, only about 50 percent of people who went to donate blood in the country.

On the other hand, it should be said that the most frequent type of donation was family donation and only 8.5 percent of people donated blood altruistically and voluntarily. This means that the WHO target for 100 percent of the blood supply to come from voluntary donors is not being met. This result places Mexico in one of the last placess for this type of donation throughout Latin America.
