The head of the delegation of the National Liberation Army (ELN) in the peace talks with the Government, Pablo Beltrán, spoke about the announcement that that guerrilla made about suspending kidnapping for economic purposes.

In that sense, Beltrán expressed that there are “media bubbles” that hold them responsible for a number of kidnappings that this group does not acknowledge having in its possession.

For this reason, he announced that at the negotiation table with the national government commitments were made so that there is “an extension of the cessation, so in the protocols we are going to include this temporary suspension of withholdings for economic purposes.”

Given this, he said in dialogue with Caracol Radio that “all the people who are under that name, there is the orientation to carry out a procedure as quickly as possible so that they are released and that it does not take too long,” but he insisted that “at least “They attribute many things to us that are not our responsibility.”

On the other hand, the head of the ELN delegation spoke about the last cycle of negotiations in which he said that there were many moments of tension as a result of “the analyzes on paramilitarism because they are causing a lot of damage, but also other groups, for example FARC residuals are causing damage.”

“We have called on the Government to ensure that there is no omissive behavior towards them. But of course, talking about these things is like rubbing salt in the wound,” he noted.

The other strong point of discussion was the kidnapping – which this group calls “retention” – about which they expressed that “a lot of media bubble has been created” and that “the first thing here is to deflate the bubbles.”

The supposed “media bubble” that Pablo Beltrán speaks of refers to the letter from the Ombudsman’s Office with a list of 91 kidnapped people, which he indicates that he is unaware of and that they made reference to some cases at the negotiation table.

Finally, the head of the delegation of that guerrilla said that they will get involved “in peace work, reconciliation after a year of this process” and that they will resolve the “obstacles” that arise.

“I think it is gratifying because what this fifth cycle did was overcome obstacles that are affecting the ceasefire,” he stated.
