An impressive testimony of deliverance from death, something that Don St. Clair has no doubt is a miracle. A Christian, he shared how God acted to prevent a moment of fun from turning into a total tragedy.
Don was with his friend, Steve Hertz, on another day in the United States, taking a motorized paragliding flight. Both are veteran pilots of this type of equipment, so they had no idea that anything bad could happen.
As per practice, the two friends made sure that on that day, in 2020, the conditions for the flight were good. “We didn’t anticipate any problems,” these Steve to CBN News. “It seemed like a very normal night to fly and we were eager to take off. The winds were light and it was a beautiful blue sky night.”
For Steve, in fact, there were no problems. He took off and managed to land at the scheduled location, but as soon as he was on the ground, he realized that there was something strange with Don. “After 10 minutes without seeing him in the air, I decided to go back to the airport and check on him. I saw him inflate his wing and start to take off,” he recalled.
Accident
Upon returning to the takeoff site, Steve realized that Don’s aircraft had not managed to climb high enough, and ended up descending, until it collided with a network of electrical wires.
“I thought he was dead. I literally watched him turn into a ball of fire and thought, I can’t survive. It was simply the worst feeling I’ve ever had. I was praying that he was alive”, recalls the friend.
Despite the very serious accident, Don said that after hitting the wires, he fell with the paraglider to the ground, losing consciousness for a moment and returning later, when he realized he was alive.
“As soon as I saw it was going to crash, the only thought that went through my head was that I was dead. When I reached these lines, the entire world turned into a ball of fire. And I was literally waiting for it all to be over,” he thought.
Deliverance
The pilot was alive and conscious, despite suffering second and third degree burns. However, having collided with a network of wires carrying 140,000 volts of energy, he knew he had received a miracle.
“As I lay there, I said, ‘Thank you, God,’ because I knew immediately that the only way I was going to survive this was divine intervention,” said Don. “When I hit those wires, the explosion took my breath away.”
“If I had inhaled that superheated air, my lungs would have burned. Electricity surrounded me, it should have passed through me. The gas did not catch fire or explode. The battery did not explode. A fall of 15 meters must be fatal. I fell on the side of the engine. If I had fallen on my face, that 85-pound engine would have crushed me,” said the pilot.
After some surgeries and a lot of prayer, Don recovered and now makes his life a living testimony of a miracle. “There is no way I should have survived this,” he concludes. “I know I am blessed.”
