New England Patriots Place J.C. Jackson on Reserve/Non-Football Illness List

New England Patriots cornerback J.C. Jackson has been placed on the reserve/non-football illness list, as announced by the team on Tuesday. This comes after Jackson’s agent, Neil Schwartz, revealed to ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the player is dealing with mental health issues.

Jackson was active for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs, but did not play nor was he on the sideline. Head coach Bill Belichick has provided minimal comment on Jackson’s status, simply stating that he was not available to play against the Chiefs.

The 26-year-old cornerback started his career with the Patriots in 2018 and played with them until 2021. He then signed a five-year, $82.5 million deal with the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2022 offseason. However, Jackson’s time with the Chargers was short-lived as he was benched early in the season before being released.

His troubles in New England continued when he didn’t travel with the team for a Nov. 12 game against the Colts. Jackson later disclosed to masslive.com that he had missed “bed checks” at the team hotel, resulting in disciplinary action.

Despite his off-field issues, Jackson has started six games for the Patriots this season, registering 25 tackles and six passes defended.

In other news, the Patriots have claimed quarterback Nathan Rourke off waivers from the Jaguars and signed running back Kevin Harris to the 53-player roster from the practice squad. Additionally, defensive back William Hooper and running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn have been signed to the practice squad.
