Tuesday, December 19, 3:40 p.m. Marine Le Pen announces to journalists that the deputies of the National Rally (RN) will finally vote for the text resulting from the joint committee (CMP). His poker move plunges the Macronists into deep embarrassment. The far-right party is therefore preparing to support the government’s immigration bill, during the vote scheduled for the same evening in the hemicycle – the text will ultimately be adopted with 349 votes for and 186 against -, then that she had always indicated that she wanted to speak out against. A decision taken to everyone’s surprise. Laurent Jacobelli, the party’s spokesperson, learned about it from a journalist.
Marine Le Pen justifies her about-face by claiming a “ideological victory”. In the eyes of the RN, the fact that the government is including in its bill a form of “national preference” in French law validates one of its most symbolic demands: the difference in rights between French people and foreigners in regular situation on French soil.
If this distinction already applies for access to certain professions and social minimums, it would now be extended – subject to the opinion of the Constitutional Council – to other non-contributory benefits. Marine Le Pen is very happy about it: “I don’t see how tomorrow the elected representatives of the majority, led by the President of the Republic, will be able to criticize us for defending the national priority, since they understand the idea that it can be applied. They apply it at a minimum but in principle, this concept is validated. »

A breach in the law of the soil
