The venue for the Indian women’s New Zealand tour has been shortened. All matches will be played at one venue. Competitions have been reduced to a single venue due to the finding that it will not be safe to travel as the Kovid plague is rampant in the country. Matches will be played in Queenstown only. The tours of South Africa and Australia to New Zealand were also reduced to one venue. Two Tests against South Africa will be played in Christchurch and three ODIs against Australia will be played in Napier. One T20I match against the Netherlands and three ODIs will be played at the Bay Oval. All these matches are played by the men’s team.
There are indications that the Women’s World Cup, to be held in New Zealand in March this year, may be held in closed stadiums. The decision was taken in view of the growing Kovid epidemic in the country. Sports Minister Grant Robertson said the ICC was monitoring the country’s restrictions and would make changes to the rules soon.
India will play limited overs matches in New Zealand ahead of the World Cup. Youngster Jamie Rodriguez and pacer Shikha Pandey have been left out of the ODI squad. Yasthika Bhatia and Sneh Rana, who have done well recently, have been named in the squad. Veteran batsman Jhulan Goswami is also in the squad. The captain is Mithali Raj.
It is also the team to play five ODIs against New Zealand before the World Cup. The squad for a T20I tour has also been announced. Jameema did not get a place in this either. The T20 team will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur.
India will start their World Cup campaign against Pakistan on March 6. India will play New Zealand on March 10, West Indies on March 12, England on March 16 and Australia on March 19. India were runners-up in the last World Cup. England defeated India in the final.
