Vehicle production closes November on the rise with 262,074 units, which represents an increase of 9.6% compared to the same month of the previous year. The stability in the reception of components and supply of materials has allowed the positive pace of Spanish factories to continue in this eleventh month.

The accumulated annual record registers a growth of 13% with 2,309,043 units. At the current production rate, it is estimated that Spanish factories could close 2023 with a higher volume than last year, even approaching 2.5 million units, according to estimates by ANFAC.

Regarding exports, during the month of November a total of 231,075 units were shipped outside our borders, 9.5% more than in the same period of 2022, representing 88.2% of monthly production. Regarding the accumulated annual figure, exports increased by 16.5%, with 2,072,230 units exported.

In November, 90.8% of exported vehicles went to Europe, which represents a slight decrease of 0.2% compared to the same month of the previous year. Likewise, the volume of units delivered to European destinations increased by 9.3% compared to the same month of the previous year.

In the TOP 5 destinations, Germany takes first place from France, which is placed in second position followed by the United Kingdom, Italy and Turkey. It is worth highlighting the notable increases experienced by the United Kingdom (+53.1%) and Turkey (+51.8%).

According to José López-Tafall, general director of ANFAC, these data are positive, which “allows us to overcome the numbers that had been dragging on since the pandemic and guide the path to recovery. In any case, we must not let our guard down as we continue to have figures lower than those of 2019. The improvement in supply rates, stability in the supply chain and the evolution of the markets in Europe have allowed this situation, which should maintained and improved by 2024.”

Electrification and low emissions

By type of vehicle, the manufacture of passenger cars was 201,608 units in November, 6.7% more than in the same month of 2022. For its part, production during the penultimate month of the year of commercial and industrial vehicles had an improvement notable 20.6% compared to the same month last year, with 60,466 units.

Regarding the manufacturing share of electrified vehicles, in November it reached 11.8% of total production, 2 percentage points less compared to last year. In November, 30,883 electrified vehicles were manufactured, which represents a slight decrease of 6.6% compared to the same month of the previous year. Of these, 26,074 units correspond to passenger cars (BEV pure electric and PHEV plug-in hybrids), which decrease by 1.1% compared to November 2022.

In the accumulated year, electrified vehicles represent 13.4% of total production, with 308,853 units, an increase of 27.1% compared to the same period of the previous year.

For José López-Tafall «The electrified vehicle is an opportunity that Spain cannot miss. From ANFAC we have conveyed this to the Government in the meetings held with the new Ministers of Industry, Jordi Hereu, and Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente. Par ANFAC «a strong market is the basis for a strong industry, and a strong electrified market is the basis for a strong electrified industry. What we do in 2024 and 2025 will be key for the future of the Spanish automotive industry,” they say from the Association.
