The Aesio mutual insurance company (nearly 3,200 employees) announced on Wednesday that it had signed an agreement with “all of the company’s trade union organizations” on a restructuring plan including 274 job cuts. The “company transformation” plan provided for 387 job cuts when it was presented, but “seven months of constructive social dialogue” made it possible to reduce this number, Aesio said in a press release.

The five unions present in the staff representative bodies – CFDT, CGT, FO, Unsa and CFE-CGC according to a source close to management – signed the agreement on this plan. Aesio has historically specialized in health. It resulted from the merger in 2016 of regional mutual groups Adréa Mutuelle, Apréva Mutuelle and Eovi Mcd Mutuelle.

Aesio aims to return to balance in 2025

In 2020, Aesio joined forces with Macif as part of a new group called Aema, which claims the position of fourth insurer in France. The brands and mutuals continue to co-exist within the group (20,000 employees in total) to preserve “the quality of the relationship” with members. According to Aesio, “a first phase of the plan” with voluntary departures and functional and geographical mobility should make it possible to reduce the impact of the 274 job cuts on staff.

The layoffs will take place in a second phase, from September 2024. Aesio has implemented this plan to return to financial balance in 2025.
