Part of the money should be used to purchase land for the implementation of the Rio Bixiga Municipal Park, in the center of São Paulo

Universidade Nove de Julho (Uninove) reached an agreement with the City of São Paulo and the State Public Ministry to get rid of a lawsuit for bribes paid to municipal inspectors in exchange for tax immunity. The university committed to paying R$1 billion.

The Estadão report contacted Uninove, which has not yet commented.

Part of the money should be used to purchase land for the implementation of the Rio Bixiga Municipal Park, in the center of São Paulo.

As part of the payment, the university also committed to constructing a building to house the Notary’s Office for the 6th Electoral Zone of São Paulo. Another clause provides for the transfer of properties to the Department of Health and the donation of a property in the Cambuci neighborhood to the city hall.

The Civil Non-Prosecution Agreement was debated over the last two years and signed this Monday, the 18th, with the Public and Social Heritage Prosecutor’s Office of the Capital and the Municipal Attorney General’s Office.

“One of the main reasons for signing the agreement was the fact that the university had provided relevant health services to the population, including during the Covid-19 Pandemic”, says a statement signed by prosecutor Silvio Marques, who is working on the case.

The pact still needs to be approved by the 14th Public Finance Court of the Capital, where the civil action filed by the Public Ministry against the university is taking place. If the clauses are not met, the process can be reopened.
