Barak Becher Sacked by Red Star Belgrade

Barak Becher has been officially dismissed from his position as the coach of Red Star Belgrade after a 2:1 loss to Partizan Belgrade in Serbia’s big derby. The defeat sealed the fate of Becher, and he was officially fired on Thursday, with reports indicating that Vladan Milojevic, a former successful coach of the team, will be taking over in Becher’s place.

Sports director Zabzdan Terzic apologized to the team’s fans at a press conference, stating, “We did not meet the goals we set for ourselves. I apologize to the wider ‘public of stars’, because we ourselves expected more. We are ending the contract of the current coach, Barak Becher. I thank him for the six months of cooperation. He did a lot of quality things, I am happy that we are parting as friends.”

It was also revealed that Red Star owes Becher and his team two salaries, and Terzic emphasized that Becher would be paid until he finds a new job. “He is not a man who wants money he has not earned. As soon as he finds a new job, we will stop paying him,” Terzic said.

Regarding Becher’s replacement, Terzic confirmed that Milojevic will be the new coach, and also took responsibility for the team’s successes and failures. “Just as I take responsibility for failures, I also take credit for successes. Sometimes people act like they woke up from hibernation, and what should I tell them? Six titles, and seven participations in UEFA competitions? Three of them Champions Leagues? And the team’s market value of 72 million euros? And 260 million euros of income from abroad?”

Becher’s dismissal comes after the team’s loss in the derby to Partizan Belgrade, with Beavers Natcho scoring the winning goal. Becher won 17 out of 27 official matches and lost eight times during his tenure, although his contract was set to expire in June 2026.

When questioned about the status of Omri Glazer after Becher’s departure, Terzic assured that Glaser remains safe at the club, and also commented on the decision to bring in new players and their long-term prospects.

Becher’s sacking marks the end of a brief tenure that promised much but ultimately failed to deliver, and questions will now be raised about Red Star’s future direction under new management.
