End of the great adventure for Thibault Tricole at the World Darts Championships. This Thursday, at Alexandra Palace in London, the Frenchman lost in three sets to the Englishman Rob Cross (3-0). Despite the defeat, the Breton did not hesitate and put up a good battle against the 2018 world champion and 8th player in the world. However, his dream ends there, he who on Monday became the first Habs to participate in the most prestigious event in his discipline.

The match started badly for Thibault Tricole, who took full advantage of his entry into the arena by greeting the many supporters. Visibly tense by the scale of the event, the Frenchman, 146th in the world, missed seven attempts to win the second round of the first set, which would have allowed him to ideally start his game. Rob Cross took advantage and took over this initial set.

The second set could, or should have, turned in the Frenchman’s favor. Returning from the locker room at his best, Thibault Tricole immediately made the break and took the lead. But Rob Cross isn’t world champion for nothing. After breaking in turn, he managed to pocket the last round of this second set by resisting the pressure from the Frenchman and achieving a superb finish at 114 (on his last burst of 3 darts).

The Englishman did not slow down during the third set. Stronger in the doubles and author of some impressive finishes, Rob Cross gave Thibault Tricole no chance, who therefore left the competition after this second round. The Frenchman can nevertheless be proud of his performance, better than in the first round, and of his World Championships, the first of his career. Smiling, he enjoyed the impressive audience one last time before leaving the stage, which he hopes to return to next year.
