Storm Pia to Hit Sweden, Heavy Snow Affects Traffic

As storm Pia prepares to make its presence known in Sweden on Thursday, heavy snowfall has already caused traffic disruptions across the country. The arrival of the storm has forced some transportation services to shut down and led to accidents on major roadways.

According to Skånetrafiken, all train traffic over the Öresund Bridge has been canceled due to strong winds. The website Öresundsbron predicts that traffic will be affected until at least 03.00 on the night of Friday. This has prompted advisories for travelers to plan for alternative routes.

In Östergötland, heavy snow caused backups on the E4 in the northbound direction earlier in the evening. Trucks were at a standstill, leading to recommendations from the Swedish Transport Administration and police for travelers to opt for different routes. However, it was later reported that traffic was moving again after the initial delays.

In Västernorrland, multiple accidents were reported on the E4 near the town of Timrå. Four cars were involved in an accident just before 6 p.m., causing major disruptions to traffic. The Swedish Transport Administration diverted traffic to alleviate congestion in the area. Thankfully, rescue efforts were completed by 19.45, and traffic returned to normal.

About ten miles north of Timrå, another accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m., prompting the Swedish Transport Administration to impose limited access on the affected roadway.

As storm Pia continues to make its way across the country, it is important for travelers to stay updated on the latest traffic advisories and plan accordingly to ensure a safe journey.
