Local Photographer Reflects on 2023 Through Stunning Images of Nature

As the year 2023 comes to a close, Swedish photographer, Patrik Leonardsson, reflects on the beauty of nature through a collection of captivating images from throughout the year.

Despite the chaos and turmoil that has plagued the world, Leonardsson has found solace and beauty in the natural world. “The year 2023 has been harmonious at home, while war and misery rage in the rest of the world. Many times there is a feeling of unreality that is broken by the anxiety about the future we face. Climate and the environment should be high on the agenda for those in power in all countries, period!” Leonardsson reflects.

Throughout the year, Leonardsson has captured remarkable moments in nature, from the gentle interaction between a young harpist and a pug in his garden to the serene beauty of a sunrise on the East Coast. Perhaps one of the most memorable encounters was with a seemingly fearless moose calf in the midst of early summer greenery in June.

In August, Leonardsson guided a group of photographers on the stunning island of Anholt in Denmark, capturing the tropical-like landscapes and emerald green waters. From there, his adventures took him to the East Coast, where he explored the tranquil beauty of Örarevet and later, the magnificent mountains of Dovre in Norway.

Amidst his terrestrial adventures, Leonardsson also ventured underwater, capturing the world beneath the surface during a dive in a water-filled quarry. Although there was little underwater photography this year, the images he captured reveal the beauty and diversity of life below the surface.

As Leonardsson looks back on the year, he is filled with gratitude for the moments he shared with nature. “I have been elected to the Nature Photographers since 1998 and now in October we had a unique autumn meeting when for the first time we beamed together with the Norwegian and Finnish counterparts,” Leonardsson says.

From the serene beauty of a moose calf to the captivating landscapes of Anholt and the mountainous terrain of Dovre, Leonardsson’s collection of images serves as a reminder of the tranquility and wonder that nature provides. As he looks ahead to the future, Leonardsson eagerly anticipates his next dive in the Galapagos, continuing his journey to capture the breathtaking beauty of the natural world.
