An 8th class student was tragically found dead inside her family’s rented house in Ranni, Pathanamthitta. Ashmi Johnson, also known as Achu-12, was discovered hanging at Uthimudu Depopadi Thop. The incident occurred on a Saturday morning after 11 am.
Ashmi, a student of Kumbalampoyka School, lived in the rented house with her mother, brother, grandfather, and grandmother. Her father, Murupel Johnson, had passed away a year ago after falling from a tree. At the time of the incident, Ashmi’s mother was out running errands, and her grandmother was at work, while her grandfather was bedridden due to illness.
Ashmi’s younger brother was next door at the landlord’s house when their mother called to inform them that someone from the gas agency would be coming with a cylinder. When her brother went to pass on the message to Ashmi, he found her locked in her room and tragically discovered her hanging from a window.
Upon receiving the distressing news, Ashmi’s mother rushed home with her brother and took Ashmi to Ranni Taluk Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The cause of death is currently unknown, and a post-mortem will be conducted at Kottayam Medical College on Sunday.
It was noted that Ashmi did not own a mobile phone. The police are currently investigating the tragic incident.
