Posture and form: The world will be watching Olha Charlan
There won’t be many athletes at next year’s Paris Olympics who will attract as much attention as Olha Charlan. The Ukrainian fencer embodies her country’s spirit of resistance like no other and at the same time personifies how international officials deal with the Russian war of aggression. When the Russian fencers, supposedly neutral, were allowed to take part in the World Championships in July, Charlan’s opponent and her entourage forced the Ukrainian’s disqualification. Charlan showed poise and form, at the World Cup and afterwards. (chb.)
