“The idea is strange, but it makes sense to sort out combinations”

Kommersant FM columnist Alexander Levy talks about a new laptop with extensive graphics capabilities.

The intention of vendors to develop a powerful workstation based on a laptop is akin to trying to cook a dietary pork knuckle. The idea is strange, but sorting out combinations makes sense. In the end, fatty meat will noticeably approach the category of proper nutrition, if it is not washed down with beer, for example.

HP developers regularly create special ZBook series laptops. A model from this family – Studio G7 Mobile Workstation – I recently tested. Inside it is the tenth generation of Intel processors (in this case, the Core i9-10880H) and the graphics card of the NVIDIA Quadro family (in my sample, the RTX 3000). Certified drivers are responsible for the most efficient operation of the bundle of all hardware elements. Another sign of professional devices is detected visually – two Thunderbolt 3 ports.

Having a penultimate generation of CPU can be confusing. Especially when you consider that the cost of the HP ZBook Studio G7 Mobile Workstation easily exceeds 250 thousand rubles. But if you pay attention to synthetic tests, it turns out that this “stone” behaves with dignity due to the support of high frequencies.

The computer performs best when working with computer-aided design systems, digital content creation and scientific calculations. In other words, relying more on the capabilities of the GPU.

Increase the RAM HP ZBook Studio G7 Mobile Workstation will not work. Engineers were generous in advance with the built-in 32GB. It’s all about the dense layout of the elements, the presence of an impressive cooling system and the desire to make the laptop as compact as possible. The last endeavor ended very successfully. The thickness of the order of 18 mm is a very worthy option for devices in this category. Due to the chopped design, the computer looks even smaller.

But inside, meanwhile, there is still an impressive battery, an excellent Bang & Olufsen audio system and a replaceable drive with a separate cooling system.

The ergonomics of the backlit keyboard turned out to be pleasant for the HP ZBook Studio G7 Mobile. The touchpad seemed more resilient than necessary. And the place for the fingerprint sensor seems to have been chosen according to the residual principle. And if a pork knuckle cannot be without a bone, then its own powerful power supply is sure to be attached to the workstation. Enjoy!
