The Netherlands has seen a significant decrease in the number of people dying from acute myocardial infarction in recent decades. Cardiologists attribute this decrease to the improved treatments for patients and the ability to quickly get patients to the hospital.

In 1990, the number of deaths from acute myocardial infarction was at 17,302, but now that number has decreased to around 4,900 per year. Despite the overall increase in the total number of deaths in the Netherlands over that period, significantly fewer elderly people are dying from heart attacks.

Cardiologists credit the improvement in care for heart patients for this decrease in fatalities. Patients are now able to quickly get to the hospital, allowing them to receive the proper care in a timely manner. Rudolf de Boer, chairman of the Dutch Association for Cardiology, highlighted the effectiveness of the Dutch healthcare system in comparison to larger countries where the distance to the hospital is often greater.

This decrease in the number of people dying from acute myocardial infarction is a positive development and reflects the advancements in medical treatments and the efficiency of the healthcare system in the Netherlands.]
