With only a few days left to close the year, the Port of Pasaia continues to boast of muscle. And the fact is that the Pasaia bay has seen more than three million tons (3.22 million specifically) move through its waters until November, which represents an interannual advance of 6.7%, and makes it the fifth port in the State with better numbers, only behind Motril, Tenerife, Tarragona and Santander. A strength that shines brighter if we take into account that the average activity in the State shows a drop of 3%, to 500 million tons, according to State Ports.

Solid bulks (mainly dry raw materials) are the ones driving the statistics, since they have risen a significant 23.9% so far this year (with 992,981 kilos). In the ‘Goods according to their presentation’ section, which is the bulk of the transport that moves in Pasaia, the growth is similar to the total, with 6.8%. Another important traffic in the Gipuzkoa dock, the so-called ‘ro-ro’ transport of wheeled vehicles), adds up to an increase of 8.7% in the first eleven months (595,854 kilos).

The 3% drop in the State’s ports is due to the effects caused by international tensions, which are still having an impact. In addition, another element of uncertainty has now been added, with the insecurity recently caused in the Red Sea, which forces shipping companies to change routes. Thus, the movement of containers through Spanish ports reached 15 million units, 5.2% less than in the same period of the previous year, although less than the 6.7% drop registered in October.
