Lula spoke on Christmas Eve
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) made a special Christmas address this Sunday (24), at 8:30 pm, on national radio and television. He defended democracy, spoke about unity and cited actions he took in his first year in office.
Lasting five minutes, the president spoke of national reconciliation and that the unity of Brazilians is one of the pillars for the country to achieve its goals.
“One of the greatest joys in life is being able to harvest what you sow. That’s why I consider myself a happy person. 2023 was the time to plant and rebuild. We plow the land, sow the seeds, water every day, take care of all the affection from Brazil and the Brazilian people. We have created all the conditions to have a generous harvest in 2024”, he began.
The video was recorded at Palácio da Alvorada on Thursday (21) and was the president’s third speech this year
During his speech, Lula highlighted the resumption of emblematic social programs, such as Minha Casa, Minha Vida, Bolsa Família and Farmácia Popular. She also addressed economic measures, including the Desenrola program, which helped pay off debts.
“We brought back and strengthened social policies that changed Brazil. Bolsa Família, Minha Casa, Minha Vida, Mais Médicos and Farmácia Popular are examples. The GDP, which is the sum of all the wealth that the country produces, grew above market forecasts. Inflation is under control, fuel prices are falling and food has become cheaper. The dollar has fallen and the Stock Exchange is breaking records”, he reported.
The president thanked Congress for approving the tax reform and other projects, in addition to highlighting his international trips throughout the year.
“We approved the taxation of the super-rich. And we achieved a historic feat: the approval of the Tax Reform, something that was attempted 40 years ago in Brazil. In addition to stimulating investments and exports, the reform corrects an injustice: now, whoever wins more will pay more tax, and whoever earns less will pay less”, he pointed out.
Furthermore, the statement included the presentation of priorities for 2024, focusing on energy transition and environmental actions. President Lula spoke of the importance of these initiatives for the country’s future.
“My wish at the end of the year is for Brazil to embrace Brazil. We are one people and one country. Let’s fight fake news, misinformation and hate speech. Value the truth, dialogue between people. That in Next year, let’s remain united, walking together towards the construction of an increasingly developed, more fraternal and fairer country for all families. A Merry Christmas and a 2024 the size of our dreams. A big hug”, he concluded.
After Christmas, Lula will spend a brief recess from December 26th to January 3rd, during which he will travel to Restinga de Marambaia, a region in the south of the State of Rio de Janeiro, accompanied by the first lady, Janja Lula da Silva, and some family members. The president returns to activities at the beginning of January.
