Temporary Footbridge Collapse at Thiruvananthapuram Christmas Celebration Event
A festive Christmas celebration turned into a nightmare when a temporary footbridge collapsed in Neyyatinkara Putankada, leaving many people injured. The incident took place during a hayloft exhibition as part of the Christmas festivities, and police and the fire brigade quickly responded to the scene.
The wooden bridge was constructed for the Christmas grass hut competition at Puruthivila Bypass Junction under the auspices of Tirupuram Gram Panchayat. Unfortunately, the bridge partially broke, causing more than ten people to be injured. The police have stated that the cause of the accident was due to an excess of people entering the bridge, exceeding its capacity.
The injured individuals were promptly taken to Neyatinkara Taluk Hospital and Mims Hospital for medical treatment. Two of the victims are in serious condition and may need to be transferred to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for further care.
The Christmas celebration turned tragic due to the bridge collapse, and an investigation is likely to follow to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future.
