President Gives Assent to Criminal Amendment Bills

President Drabupati Murmu has approved the Criminal Amendment Bills, which were introduced by the Central Government to bring changes to the Indian Penal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code, and the Indian Evidence Act. These laws were originally introduced during the British era and have now been updated to reflect modern-day India.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the three bills, namely ‘Bharatiya Nagarik Surak Shah Sanhita, Bharatiya Saksha Aadhiniyam, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita’, in the Lok Sabha. The Standing Committee recommended some amendments to the bills, resulting in the central government withdrawing the original versions.

After incorporating the recommendations from the Standing Committee, the updated bills were passed in both houses of Parliament and sent for the President’s approval. President Drabupati Murmu has now given his assent to all three bills, paving the way for the new laws to come into effect.

The passage of these bills marks a significant step towards modernizing and reforming the country’s legal framework. The updated laws are expected to improve the functioning of the criminal justice system and ensure greater protection for citizens. With the President’s approval, it is only a matter of time before these new laws are officially implemented.
