BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque lost everything. This Monday, in the midst of Christmas celebrations, players, coaches and managers discovered that their home, the “Sportica” sports complex, had been destroyed by a gigantic fire. A tragedy for this Betclic Élite club which has been playing in this room for many years. Built in 1986, Sportica was a legendary venue for French basketball.

He is now nothing more than a pile of ashes. This is a new blow for the northern club which is already struggling in Betclic Elite, with only four victories in the first 16 matches of the season and a 17th place in the standings. This Thursday, December 28, the Gravelinois were to face Paris Basketball, second in the championship, before taking advantage of a few days of break. This match will ultimately not take place following the fire which ravaged the hall but also all the club’s equipment.

“Given the material and emotional context, the match will be postponed,” Fabrice Jouhaud, general director of the LNB (National Basketball League), confirmed to us. The Gravelines-Dunkerque club no longer has jerseys, no more room, no more nothing. And emotionally, it’s very difficult so it doesn’t make sense to maintain a match like that. »

Very shocked by this fire, which some were able to see as they were preparing to take part in training, the players were released and can go on vacation. It will, however, be necessary to find solutions for January 10, the date of the resumption of the Northerners in Nymburk, in the Czech Republic, as part of the FIBA Europe Cup.
