For El Baldo, teaching Mathematics is a mission which he carries out even within his home. And I don’t mean that in a figurative sense. The walls of the home, where he lives with his traveling companion, Mercedes, for many years have been complicit in the evolution of each student who, overwhelmed by the “problems” of life, found there the necessary methodology to master a complex science.
It doesn’t matter if they are ninth grade candidates eager to retrace the corridors of the IPVCE, or those looking for a place in competitions or Olympics, or trying to overcome the worrying entrance exams to Higher Education, or who have just a few days left to graduate… in Alquízar we look for him. He is a kind of “priest” whose gifts help us seek answers based on certainties and not only on beliefs or emotions.
Master in Educational Sciences and Assistant Professor at the University of Artemisa, René Baldriche Rodríguez is not only an intelligent man, he is also an excellent pedagogue and staunchly defends an idea: “only a creative teacher, a transformative intellectual, a research teacher “It is capable of modifying the current reality of our classrooms.”
A few days after honoring those who lead a life attached to similar precepts, El Baldo agreed to discuss what he thinks about the teaching of Mathematics, after 50 years dedicated to this exercise.

«We must ensure that teachers in training want to learn Mathematics as they wish and it is up to their mentors to show them how beautiful their study can be, because we really learn well everything that pleases us and pleases our senses.
«We teachers in the classroom must strive to present before the eyes of the students an interesting subject capable of fulfilling their intellectual aspirations.»
This experienced professor also understands the value of the information society and within it the use of technologies as an essential tool for self-preparation, sustained research, consultation of new bibliography…
“This way, students or future teachers will have the opportunity to relate the contents of their class with everyday situations and problems and those of other sciences, understand the usefulness of what they have learned and relate it to anecdotes and passages from daily life.”
«Likewise, the teacher must carefully select the exercises and problems. To do this, he will try to take into account the level of his students and their performance possibilities. Thus, when the occasion allows it, he will highlight the successes and small triumphs of the disciples for their original questions or the correct solution of problems and exercises. “He will try to teach them to make inferences through different processes and methods.”
But the most important mission of those of us who teach this subject is to make students know through it, and in different ways, to demonstrate a “truth.”
His advice for those who decide to make teaching Mathematics a way of life is not only based on personal experience from so many years dedicated to teaching. There is also the mark of his mentors and for that reason he tries to repay them.
Inspiring a love for science, stimulating the interest of your students, challenging their intellect, solving the most arduous and complicated issues logically, is the greatest of desires.
Now after retired and reinstated at the Municipal University Center of Alquízar, he looks for those incentives in the students of the Agronomy and Mathematics majors. In them, there is surely sincere gratitude for so much dedication and professionalism.
