Title: Rural Kanchipuram to Generate Electricity from Cow Dung Under Government Project
In an effort to promote sustainable energy production and cleanliness in rural areas, the Central Government’s ‘Gobardhan’ project will see the establishment of a power generation plant using dung gas. The project, aimed at generating electricity from livestock waste, is being implemented in Kanchipuram district, specifically in the Kovur Panchayat under the Rural Development Department.
With a budget of 50 lakh rupees allocated for the project, the works are already underway and are expected to be completed within four months. The initiative, which is part of the ‘Swachh Bharat’ program, aims to utilize cow dung to produce energy and reduce waste in rural areas.
According to a spokesperson from the Rural Development Department, this scheme is being implemented to keep the surroundings of the panchayat clean. This innovative project to generate electricity from cattle waste is a first for the Kanchipuram district.
The chosen panchayat, Kovur, was selected based on the large number of unaccounted cattle, with 300 cows and 150 buffaloes in the area. By utilizing modern machinery including generators, the electricity generated from dung gas will be used to power essential infrastructure such as the overhead water tank and composting center in the panchayat.
Furthermore, the project aims to involve local organizations such as the Women’s Aid Committee and the Milk Producers Association to install the necessary equipment and utilize the surplus gas for additional revenue generation for the panchayat.
The initiative is not only a step towards sustainable energy production but also serves as a means to promote cleanliness and proper waste management in rural areas. Once completed, the dung gas station will not only contribute to electricity generation but also serve as a model for similar projects in other regions of the district.
