“Our country needs a radical change of course. A conflict with the ideological core of the Right is needed”, states the president of K.O. of the New Left, Alexis Haritsis, in an interview with the newspaper “to Vima” and the journalist Aris Ravanos.
“The latest developments confirm our assessment that SYRIZA is headed for a definitive mutation leading to the discredit of the Left in the country. He voted for equipment, he appears ambivalent on the issue of private universities, his president the other day denounced – in terms of fake news – the arrival of 500,000 foreign workers in our country. This is neither leftist nor often serious politics. Let everyone from now on make the choices dictated by their conscience and their principles”, emphasizes A. Haritsis, harshly criticizing SYRIZA-PS.
“Stefanos Kasselakis and the new leadership team are not moving SYRIZA in any specific direction. They express a failed opposition tactics which is based on general and often contradictory positions. Challenging Mr. Mitsotakis’ hegemony requires more than a partial adoption of his agenda and the famous “Greek dream.” A radical conflict with the ideological core of the Right is needed and at the same time persuasive design based on processed positions on the great problems of our time. The current SYRIZA and its current leadership cannot do this,” he clarifies.
For the polls
“In a recent poll, one in four voters – 25% – said they could support our project. This is a good starting point for the endurance road ahead. Our job is to turn this possibility into reality,” he points out in reference to the poll findings.
“The Right has imposed its agenda”
“Our plan is to connect the great goals of our time, climate justice, the mitigation of social inequalities and the need to restart our Democracy, with tangible steps that change people’s lives today.” He also mentions that “the Right has imposed its agenda. It builds conditions of hegemony in Greek society. And this should concern us and activate us”.
“The New Left talks about the need to put forward the content of politics. With documentation, combativeness and modern answers to modern problems. This is our political identity,” says Mr. Haritsis, adding that “our goal is to decisively restore the left and the progressive space as a whole to the center of political confrontation in our country.”
The president of K.O. of the New Left emphasizes that “one is needed decisive plan for the fight against precision, a new, sustainable and inclusive, productive model, social and productive utilization of the Recovery Fund and public policies for the benefit of the many and not the few”, announcing that from January they will proceed to file legislative interventions.
The goal in the European elections
“The New Left has made it clear that its goal is to European elections for an open ballot to appear that will express the most creative and restless forces of Greek society. We are aware of the difficulties. But we also have great faith in the possibilities of our venture”, he says.
Finally, to a question about the future presidency of the party – when it is officially created -, A. Haritsis commented: “I am the head, but we operate collectively. Without messiahs and leaders. I have accepted the honorable proposal of my comrades and I am here to give all my strength and creativity to our common cause. We are aware of the difficulties. But we also have great faith in the possibilities of our project.”
