The prices of and came under strong pressure this session, after information circulated in the American media that increased the uncertainties surrounding the approval of a spot cryptocurrency ETF (exchange-traded fund) by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), equivalent to the Commission Securities Market (CVM) in the USA.
Fox Business journalist Eleanor Terrett reported on her account on X, formerly Twitter, over the weekend that December 29 was confirmed as the deadline set by the SEC for submitting the necessary documentation for the first round of approvals related to the ETF.
Low liquidity due to the end of year celebrations also contributed to the movement. At around 5pm (Brasília time), bitcoin fell 3.19%, to US$ 42,103.06 (R$ 202,890.32) and ethereum fell 2.70%, to US$ 2,211.41 (R$ 10,672, 93), according to Coinbase (NASDAQ:).
