Detroit Pistons Set NBA Record for Longest Losing Streak in Single Season

The Detroit Pistons put on an impressive showing in Tuesday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets, but ultimately fell short, extending their losing streak to 27 games and setting a new NBA record. The Pistons suffered a 118-112 loss to the Nets at Little Caesar’s Arena, in front of their home fans.

Despite leading by as many as 14 points and holding a 97-92 lead with less than eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Pistons were unable to hold on, as the Nets went on a 16-3 run to clinch the victory. The loss sets a new record for the longest losing streak in a single season in NBA history, with the Pistons now just one game away from tying the overall losing streak record of 28 games, set by the Philadelphia 76ers between the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.

Cade Cunningham, the 2021 No. 1 overall pick, had an outstanding performance, scoring 41 points on 15-of-21 shooting, with nine rebounds and five assists. Bojan Bogdanovic added 23 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter, but only two other players on the team scored over 10 points.

Fans took to social media to express their disappointment with the Pistons’ missed opportunity to end the losing streak, as well as their frustration with the team’s performance.

The Pistons (2-28) will have their next opportunity to end the skid on Thursday as they face the Boston Celtics, who currently hold the best record in the NBA at 23-6. While it may be a massive surprise if Detroit doesn’t tie the overall losing streak record, they are expected to put forth their best effort to avoid making more history.
