NASA Identifies Five Asteroids Passing by Earth in the Coming Days

Astronomers from the American space agency NASA have identified five asteroids that are expected to pass by Earth in the coming days. Using both ground and space telescopes, NASA has been tracking the movements of these asteroids to ensure they do not pose a threat to our planet.

The first asteroid, named 2023 YD, is expected to pass by Earth today (December 28th) at a distance of about 605 thousand kilometers, moving at a speed of 35,790 km/h. This 28-meter asteroid is not considered a threat.

The second asteroid, 2023 YZ, is expected to pass by Earth on December 29th, coming within 308 million kilometers of our planet and passing at a speed of 20,199 km/h. This -27-meter asteroid is also not considered a threat.

On December 30th, the third asteroid, 2023 YM, will pass by our planet at a distance of about 3.8 million kilometers. This 37-meter wide space rock moves at a speed of 44,491 km/h and does not pose a threat to Earth.

The fourth asteroid, 2023 XE12, is expected to pass by Earth on December 31st, at a distance of about 5.6 million kilometers. This 40-meter asteroid is also not considered a threat.

The fifth asteroid, 2021 AM6, is also expected to pass by on the same day, reaching a distance of about 7 million kilometers. This 16-meter space rock does not pose a threat to our planet.

All of these asteroids are in the “Apollo” group of near-Earth asteroids, which are regularly monitored by NASA astronomers to ensure they do not pose a threat. The orbits of these asteroids are tracked to make sure they do not come too close to Earth.

While the passage of these asteroids is significant, NASA has stated that they do not pose a threat to our planet. However, the close approach of these asteroids provides scientists with an opportunity to study them up close and gather valuable data about their composition and behavior in space.
