In a tragic event that occurred in the municipality of Florida, Mayor Jonathan Álvarez Betancourt, 38 years old and with 18 years of service in the institution, was murdered during an act of service.

The event took place on Transversal 4th and 23rd Street, when Mayor Álvarez, along with a patrol car, responded to a request for intervention from two individuals on a motorcycle.

Abruptly, the attackers fired indiscriminately, wounding the Mayor and his companion while carrying out their duties.

Despite courageously repelling the attack and causing the attackers to flee, Mayor Álvarez suffered serious injuries.

He was urgently transferred to a clinic in Palmira, where, unfortunately, he died despite medical efforts.

The Government of Valle del Cauca has announced a reward of up to 50 million pesos for information that leads to the capture of those responsible for this violent act.

The National Police, deeply shocked, is committed to clarifying the homicide and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
