We live in different worlds, with different interests and interests, we say when we differ from others. Often these two worlds fight, fight with each other, i.e. people with their opinions and ideologies.
On Christmas Eve 1944, British troops attempted to land on Lesvos. All the people of the island, with the guidance of the EAM, pushed them away. Much has been written about this historic event and important political victory. In his vignette “The Two Worlds”, published on December 30, 1944 in the EAM newspaper “Eleftheri Lesvos”, the intellectual Ilias Paraskevaidis outlines the two worlds that are fighting:
“With the fight that the people of Mytilini have had these days, the two worlds that are fighting have been exposed. The old one struggling to hold on to its place, reactionary and the other the new one rising strong, revolutionary and will infuse new life into civilization. It is the people with the forces that have not yet come into action. With the landing of the blacks, he felt that his freedom was in danger. He saw how his rights would be violated. They were the genuine people, with a conscience for everything they did. Farmers and workers simple and together small employers professionals, scientists, traders, micro industrialists, housewives, employees, poorly dressed and well dressed. All the classes that the old parties tried to keep separate. Today they were all united by a common purpose. They saw their enemies coming to impose their state by force. A state foreign to the people and all classes of the people stood together united against this foreign imposition.
The other world
And facing the people is the old world with all its remnants. All the stages of the reaction stood before the people. From the edge, from the people who were happy as if they learned that black people would come out in Mytilini, to consolidate their world that is crumbling, just like the indifferent, the neutral. The people who didn’t care if the rights of the people would be violated, if black people would be used for it. They are the people who see their interests tied to a situation, which is still trying to impose itself in every way, even with the blacks and they accept them. But they order to confess it. As much as they talk about democracy and freedoms, in critical moments they stand far from the struggle, showing their real position. And freedoms remain only words. The fight between the two worlds continues, but the battle has been won by the new one”.
And today the struggle of the two worlds continues. The point is that you have chosen the world of struggle, humanity, effort and social support of every weak and downtrodden.
