The list of companies eligible to export vanilla for the 2023-2024 season was made public on December 11 by the Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Consumption (MICC). A total of 57 companies met the criteria required to receive accreditation. Compliance with payment of local taxes and repatriation of foreign funds are among these criteria.
The prepared vanilla export campaign opened on December 7 and ends on July 31, 2024, according to the Council of Ministers. The Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Consumption claims to be watching closely and ensuring, through the various measures taken, that the quality of this exceptional flagship product of the Big Island is maintained.
Madagascar produces and exports around 2,000 tonnes of vanilla per year, and remains by far the world leader, but the Malagasy pod struggles to find buyers. The collapse in the price of vanilla observed in recent months in any case already presages another crisis for this new season.
