A man of Cuban origin died this Monday after a confrontation with the Spanish police in the A Grela area, in A Coruña.
According to the Europa Press agency, the individual was shot dead in an action carried out by the National Police, who had described him as “very aggressive.”
Local reports indicated that the individual was allegedly vandalizing vehicles at the time of the police intervention, so there was an action by the officers due to previous altercations involving the 35-year-old man.
The aforementioned source added that in the confrontation with the agents of the device deployed to the scene, the Cuban tried to attack a police officer with an iron bar.
At first, the police tried to arrest the man with a Taser electric gun, which did not work because the man was wearing too many clothes.
During the confrontation, one of the agents who was on the ground fired the shot that caused the death of the individual.
The Unified Police Union (SUP) stated on its social networks that he was “a criminal” due to his entire criminal record. In addition, they offered legal and psychological support to the police officer who shot the subject.
Yesterday, El Diario.es reported that “the Police have opened an investigation in relation to the death by gunshot in A Coruña of a man who attacked the agents who participated in a police intervention to arrest him with an iron bar. his arrest.”
Sources close to the case stated that the investigation is the usual: “As in all cases where there is a death,” clarifying that it is either due to a police officer or due to the involvement of another person.
For their part, the police unions point out that the agent acted in legitimate defense and that the investigation will confirm that the “praxis was absolutely correct.”
According to the general secretary of the SUP in A Coruña, Marcos Franco, the police officer had no other options given the man’s violent attitude.
