At this Friday’s press conference, after the tragic homicidal events that marked the long Christmas weekend with a tragic toll of 10 lives lost, José Azambuya, national director of the Police, addressed the citizens with an urgent call .

With the arrival of the end of the year, which again coincides with an extended weekend, Azambuya urged citizens to maintain security and peace, underlining the importance of community collaboration to ensure a safe and peaceful end of the year.

“Try to take care of yourselves,” he said. “In the face of personal conflict situations, let us seek the tolerance necessary to handle the facts of human nature. And that we do not end up in a conflict that affects many families and everyone,” added the leader.

When a journalist asked him to send a message to the population regarding the wave of violent crimes that occurred between December 23 and 25, Azambuya responded that “there are a lot of events that it is impossible for the Police to avoid,” in allusion to violent events at family gatherings.

“In a very short term, despite the volume of events that happened, the National Police had people identified through material elements that it has made available to the Prosecutor’s Office,” he noted in another part of the conference.

“Among all the facts that concern us today, we have only two cases where we are still investigating, but most of them have all been clarified,” he added. “We are not going to abandon the neighborhoods until security is at the levels we consider. We are not going to allow crime to take over public places. Until we pacify the neighborhoods, we are not going to abandon them,” he stressed.

Later, he added: “As we have said before, the National Police will have all its technical, human, technological and logistical resources to try to minimize these types of situations.”
